Postdoctoral Position in Cellular Neurophysiology—Cellular Neurophysiology, Behavioral Neurocircuitry and Cellular Plasticity Section

Pain and Integrative Neuroscience Branch
National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH)
National Institutes of Health (NIH)/Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS)

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Behavioral Neurocircuitry and Cellular Plasticity Section of the Pain and Integrative Neuroscience Branch at the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH).

The selected candidate will join a recently established and growing research program focused on identifying the anatomical (circuit), molecular, and cellular mechanisms of pain processing and modulation by the amygdala. The cellular mechanisms underlying the modulation of pain-related behaviors will be evaluated using mouse behavioral models in combination with electrophysiological, anatomical, histological, chemogenetic, and optogenetic approaches.

Located on the NIH Bethesda campus within one of the most active neuroscience communities in the world (, the position offers exceptional opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with a diverse group of investigators with a wide range of interests relative to the study of pain. The laboratory is housed in the Porter Neuroscience Research Center, with new state-of-the-art biomedical research facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS/ELIGIBILITY: Applicants should have less than 3 years of relevant research experience since their receipt of a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree in the biomedical sciences and at least 1 year of experience performing in vivo electrophysiology or patch-clamp electrophysiology in acute brain slices. Expertise in molecular biology or experience handling mice, using neuroanatomical tracers, chemogenetic or optogenetic approaches would be a plus. Other requirements include strong laboratory, analytical, and organizational skills; strong verbal and written communication skills in English; and the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
