Slava (Viatcheslav) Soldatenkov, Ph.D., is the scientific review officer (SRO) in the Office of Scientific Review at the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH). He manages the scientific peer review of research grant and cooperative agreement applications assigned to NCCIH for primary merit review.
Dr. Soldatenkov earned his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Institute of Biophysics in Moscow, Russia, in 1983. He did his postdoctoral training in molecular biology at Georgetown University Medical Center.
Dr. Soldatenkov began his National Institutes of Health (NIH) career in 2008 as an SRO for the Division of Extramural Activities at the National Cancer Institute. Prior to joining NIH, he served as an associate professor in the Department of Radiation Medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center. During his tenure in academia, he has developed a strong research program in the areas of molecular mechanisms of cell responses to genotoxic stress, identification of molecular targets involved in balancing the cellular susceptibility/resistance to DNA damage, gene-environment interactions, and experimental therapeutics using various cell and animal models and drug delivery systems. His research has been supported by numerous Federal and pharmaceutical industry grant awards. He has published more than 60 manuscripts in a variety of scientific journals in biochemistry, cell biology, cancer research, and experimental therapeutics.
