3.3% of U.S. children (1.9 million) used
chiropractic or osteopathic manipulation

About 112,000 more American children used chiropractic or osteopathic manipulation in 2012 than in 2007.

Chiropractors, osteopathic physicians, and some other health care professionals use a technique called spinal manipulation. Practitioners perform spinal manipulation by using their hands or a device to apply a controlled force to a joint of the spine. Parents should be aware that many complementary health approaches have not been tested for safety or effectiveness in children.
