Have you ever thought about working at NIH?

NCCAM is looking for an experienced researcher to join the Division of Extramural Research’s Clinical Research Branch as a program director. This is an exciting opportunity to work at one of the largest funding agencies of complementary health research in the world. In addition, you will support the NIH mission to extend healthy lives and reduce the burdens of illness and disability.

As a program director you would have responsibility for providing scientific leadership and guidance to the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of assigned biomedical, behavioral health, or health-related research in complementary and integrative health clinical research. We are seeking applicants with experience conducting or overseeing human subjects research such as clinical trials, human mechanistic studies, and/or cohort or case-control studies. In addition, the applicant’s scientific expertise should include, though not be limited to, one or more of the following areas: mind and body interventions (e.g., meditation, mindfulness techniques, massage, tai chi, spinal manipulation); neuroimaging techniques; behavioral interventions; and/or neuroscience.

In the next few weeks, NCCAM will be posting a job opening for Health Scientist Administrator in USAJobs to fill a new program director position. If you are interested in applying, you can go to the website ( and begin building your profile and uploading your curriculum vitae. Once the position is posted, you will be able to respond to the specific questions and submit your application. Please be advised that positions are generally open for 5–10 days, so getting a head start on your profile can be quite helpful.

Being a program director seems pretty cool and when times get busy you definitely have to be prepared.

Becoming a program director is a tough job. Implementation and planning requires great expertise, especially in the case of clinical trials.

On July 15, the opening for a Health Scientist Administrator (GS-0601-14) was posted on USAJobs and on the NCCAM website. There are two links, one for current federal employees or status candidates and one for all US citizens.  The deadline to apply is July 24, 2014.
