glucosamine and/or chondroitin (which are often taken together)
There was a small decrease in the percentage of adults using glucosamine and/or chondroitin between 2007 and 2012, from 3.2% to 2.6%, or 786,000 fewer adults.
Cartilage, which cushions our joints, contains glucosamine and chondroitin. These two substances are also used in dietary supplements, which have been studied for osteoarthritis. Glucosamine and/or chondroitin supplements may interact with warfarin, an anticoagulant (blood thinner). They don’t appear to have other serious side effects.
