The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), National Institutes of Health (NIH), is hiring a public affairs specialist in the Office of Communications and Public Liaison (OCPL). The communications professional will work on a team to design and implement innovative media relations strategies and approaches, develop and write content for various audiences, and coordinate and promote high-priority scientific workshops for the Center.

Background
NCCIH is the Federal Government’s lead agency for scientific research on complementary and integrative health approaches. The vision is that scientific evidence informs decision making by the public, health care professionals, and health policy makers regarding the integrated use of complementary health approaches in a whole person health framework. The mission of NCCIH is to determine, through rigorous scientific investigation, the fundamental science, usefulness, and safety of complementary and integrative health approaches and their roles in improving health and health care.
The NCCIH OCPL is responsible for all communications activities for the Center. These activities include communications program planning; health education and health promotion; website development; media relations; lectures and exhibits; presentations, printing, and design services; information products for the public and researchers; public inquiries and information clearinghouse; promoting and supporting scientific workshops and events; and implementing communication activities across the Center. This office advises the Center’s senior management on communications regarding issues that may affect the Center’s initiatives and programs.
Duties
As a public affairs specialist your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Develops and writes information materials for national audiences through various media outlets.
- Oversees the development of digital communications products and a comprehensive digital communications process.
- Provides technical expertise in web development ensuring efficiency and standards compliance.
- Develops and implements innovative media relations strategies and approaches.
- Designs strategies for communicating high-priority program information to various audiences.
