Healthy volunteers needed for pain study

Researchers at the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health seek healthy volunteers to participate in a research study to learn more about how to respond to pain. This study will allow investigators to collect information that may be used to learn more about pain disorders and how to respond to painful experiences. Study visits are conducted at the National Institutes of Health, Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

About the study:

  • All participants will have a physical examination and questionnaires about physical, mental, and social well-being
  • You may be asked to:
    • provide a blood sample
    • have testing of your senses that may include pain
    • an MRI of your brain
  • Travel costs will be provided for participants outside the local (DC, VA, MD) area
  • Compensation will be provided

You may be eligible to participate if you are:

  • At least 12 years old (Parents must give permission for minors to participate)
  • In good health

You may not be eligible to participate if you:

  • Have any active medical or mental health issue
  • Have a current, or have had a history of pain disorder

Location: The NIH Clinical Center, America’s Research Hospital, in Bethesda, Maryland, is conveniently located on the Metro red line (Medical Center stop). Parking is provided at no cost.
