Check the webpage for up-to-date information when you are thinking about applying. Program portfolio assignments may change over time (https://www.nccih.nih.gov/grants/division-of-extramural-research-program-directors).

If you have a specific funding opportunity announcement (FOA) in mind, you can also check the “Scientific/Research Contact(s)” listed at the end of the FOA for contact information of the NCCIH program director who is taking the lead on applications for that FOA.

If you are unsure whom to contact, email the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health DER Inquiries mailbox at nccihderinquiries@mail.nih.gov, and we will direct you from there.

Include the following information in an initial email to either a specific program director or the NCCIH DER Inquiries mailbox:

  • If known, the FOA(s) you are interested in—please include the complete FOA number (e.g., PA-20-190, K01)
  • A brief description of your proposed research and why you are interested in the FOA(s) selected and/or assignment to NCCIH
  • Any specific questions you want to address
  • Attach your draft specific aims (one page)

Reach out to program staff well in advance of the application due date (at least 2 to 3 months)!
