Join Us for a Full-Day Meeting on Cannabinoids and Pain on June 4
April 24, 2024
If you’re interested in research on cannabinoids, pain, or both, I hope you’ll join us virtually for the 2024 National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) Cannabinoid Research Principal Investigators Meeting on Tuesday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET. The meeting is free, and everyone is welcome to attend. Registration is open now.
This meeting is the final one for the group of investigators who have been conducting NCCIH-supported projects on the mechanisms underlying the analgesic properties of minor cannabinoids and terpenes. It has two goals:
- To highlight the progress made over the past 5 years.
- To discuss challenges faced by researchers working in this field and look ahead to new opportunities to advance the science on cannabis, cannabinoids, and pain.
At the meeting:
- Twenty-one investigators who have been doing research on cannabinoids and pain will briefly summarize their projects.
- Our keynote speaker, Daniele Piomelli, Ph.D., Pharm.D., of the University of California, Irvine, will give an overview of the safety and efficacy of cannabis-based products in animal models and clinical studies.
- Staff from NCCIH and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) will provide updates on new National Institutes of Health (NIH) initiatives and resources for cannabis research, including the Cannabis Resource Center initiative, and supplier representatives will give updates on cannabis products for research.
- Representatives from NIDA, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and the Drug Enforcement Administration will discuss new and existing legislation, policies, and regulatory oversight for cannabinoid research.
- Staff from nine NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) will explain their ICs’ priorities for cannabis research.
It’s going to be a very exciting day, particularly for investigators who are interested in new research opportunities and potential collaborations in this field. We welcome you to view the detailed agenda and register online.
