The National Advisory Council for Complementary and Integrative Health (NACCIH) will meet on Friday, September 20  on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus in Bethesda, Maryland. We welcome our stakeholders, including members of the public, to attend the Open Session, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. The session offers updates on the Center’s activities, policies, and funding priorities. You may attend on NIH Videocast (where the meeting will also be archived) or in person.

The NACCIH meets three times per year and is charged with advising, consulting with, and making recommendations to the Center Director on matters relating to NCCIH’s research activities and functions. In closed sessions, it provides secondary review of grant applications with respect to NCCIH research priorities and program balance. There is a dedicated time for public comment during the Open Session.

In the afternoon, we will feature a symposium to inaugurate the planning process for NCCIH’s strategic plan for the years 2021 to 2025. Three NCCIH staff will speak: Helene Langevin, M.D., NCCIH Director; Mary Beth Kester, M.S., Director of the Office of Policy, Planning, and Evaluation (OPPE); and Angela Arensdorf, Ph.D., Science Policy Analyst, OPPE. Discussion among Council members will follow.

Other presentations during the Open Session will include:

  • “Analyses of the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey,” by Barbara Stussman, B.A., Survey Statistician, NCCIH
  • Three research concepts for clearance by Council:
    • “An Open-Access Repository/Database for Anatomical and Physiological Ontology of Acupoints,” by Wen Chen, Ph.D., Chief, Basic and Mechanistic Research Branch, Division of Extramural Research (DER), NCCIH
    • “Clinical Trials Initiatives,” by Wendy Weber, N.D., Ph.D., M.P.H., Chief, Clinical Research Branch, DER, NCCIH
    • “High Program Priority Initiatives for Basic and Mechanistic Studies of Complementary and Integrative Health Approaches,” by Wen Chen, Ph.D. (see above).

NCCIH also looks forward to welcoming four new Council members; details will be available at https://nccih.nih.gov/news by the meeting date. We sincerely thank the members whose terms are concluding: Drs. Steven George, Bin He, Patricia Herman, Susmita Kashikar-Zuck, and Cynthia Price.

We welcome you to attend the Open Session at NIH (Building 35, Rooms 620/630), or via NIH Videocast
