I am pleased to introduce myself to those of you who do not yet know me: I’m Shelley Headley, Chief Grants Management Officer in the NCCIH Office of Grants Management. I look forward to sharing information and tips with you through this blog.

The Office of Grants Management oversees the administration of grants before and after awards are issued. We are also the Center’s focal point for all business-related activities associated with the negotiation, award, and administration of grants and cooperative agreements.

If you’ve ever had a grant or cooperative agreement from NCCIH, have one now, or might apply for one, you interact with the team in my office.

Today, I’d like to point you to a new revision of key guidance, the FY 2016 National Institutes of Health Grants Policy Statement (NIH GPS). This document is a definitive resource for anyone interested in applying for an NIH grant. It includes many links to relevant policies. You’ll find general information (including a glossary) on grants, the terms and conditions of NIH grant awards, and points of contact in the policy statement. You may find that your institution’s grants and contracts office can help clarify questions that you have about the policy changes. If you have further questions, please feel free to email my team. Also, if you have any topics that you’d like me to address on the blog at some point, please let me know through the NCCAM Blog Comment Form.

As we move into a new calendar year, I would like to share a quote from the Policy Statement that I feel captures our work ahead: “NIH is the steward of medical and behavioral research for the Nation. Its mission is to seek fundamental knowledge about the nature and behavior of living systems and the application of that knowledge to enhance health, lengthen life, and reduce illness and disability.”
